The sun ascends,
climbing like a sloth,
winking through the leaves.
Soon its light will spread
Like a garment laid out
upon the horizon.
For now, I wait,
Like a psalmist,
For His face to
Shine on me.
The sun ascends,
climbing like a sloth,
winking through the leaves.
Soon its light will spread
Like a garment laid out
upon the horizon.
For now, I wait,
Like a psalmist,
For His face to
Shine on me.
Further up and further in.
When kingdom comes
I will be done.
Thou will be my vision
when all is cleared from view.
Stones stepped on again,
not thrown.
Tongues tied,
not whipped around
with little thought or reason.
Time to settle down,
not settle.
So many ways to be
a prodigal.
One way to be
a son.
Acquiesce to Love.
God is Love.
Unfold my arms,
Relax these tight shoulders.
Come, this wide-eyed morning
And lay these hesitancies on the dew.
Soak them mercifully, and grace
These fists in their clenched resistance.
Palms up, lifeline exposed
In vulnerable sweat.
Break upon my heart
Like the broken light,
Shards all around.
Oh Lord, how great your arms
Surround the pieces
Lying round.
Oh Lord, come gather me
To Your mercy
Where praise breaks free.
Oh Lord, clear my vision
That sight be in line
And Your light
Efface these things
I call my own.
Oh carry me home.
Jesus, keep me from deifying
Gravity with those memories
Of self-pining, pinned down,
Fastened to floors of unforgiving.
Lord Jesus, Come help me defy
Gravity, grant moments
Of rising above
With leaps of grace and mercy.
When I walk, may it be light
Obedient steps
Morphing into a dervish dance
While gravity spirals away.
