Poetry, essay, and prose, oh my!

Reflections on a Ballerina

You were found

right before first position,

just for a while.

We brushed prayers out and up

for beauty not to be fleeting,

just for a while.

We rubbed our toes in your chalk

pictures on the driveway,

just for a while.

Our arms were extended,

flowing like a swan’s,

just for a while.

And we gathered you

under our wings,

just for a while,

because,

in a while

you will dance.

    1. No, I didn’t take it. A friend allowed me to use a picture of her daughter. The image was calling out…”Poem!”

  3. Beautiful — in all aspects!

  4. first…your daughter is beautiful…and then…just love the verse…the protecting them to tender and help them learning to fly…loved the chalk part as well..

  5. Oh, this makes me cry, so very touching… “just for a while” goes by so fast.

  6. lovely man…this def is written with the heart of a parent to a child….and one day soon they will dance…heart felt man…

  7. This has a real poignancy–one is very conscious here as in life that the “just for a while” is indeterminate–lovely poem – beautiful photo. K.

  8. Captures the fleeting glimpse of childhood, and the hope of what the child might become and do. The picture is stunning in its simplicity. Excellent post!
