Gerald the Writer

Poetry, essay, and prose, oh my!

Cast

An undertow of tears

dragging thoughts at first,

Then emotions burst

In a tumbler of sorrow.

*

Blessed are mourns

Curled under and away.

Sit ashore with me, stay.

Let’s embrace our humanity.

*

Oh, ocean, receive our

Drops of brokenness.

And on your openness

We shall pray.

*

“Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise.” James 5:13

  1. Expressing and sharing our emotions is recognizing our humanity and being part of a caring community. Our vulnerability becomes our strength. That is also the nature and the strength of engaging in confession.

  2. Beautiful and tragic all at once, Jerry. I just sat at the Gulf for a few days watching waves and feeling undertow. You’ve captured it.

Thanks for your time and thoughts.
